The torsion springs on your garage door do most of the heavy lifting of your door. Surprisingly to most, the opener does less work than the springs.
So how do you know if your springs need to be replaced?
If your garage door won't open it is likely the springs are out. It doesn't necessarily matter how many years your springs have been in place, but more so how often you use your door.
If you ever open your door manually and it lifts fairly easy then your springs are probably in good shape. On the other hand, if your door is on the heavier side it is likely that your springs will need replacement.
